ABOUT THE ARTISTS
ABOUT CHRISTOPHER WONG
Melbourne-born pianist Christopher Wong has captivated his audiences through his fiery temperament and tactless wit. He continues to break down traditional barriers and create meaningful experiences for the eyes and ears on stage.
Christopher has performed internationally as a performing artist in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Germany and Finland. His array of accomplishments include first prize awards from numerous competitions and scholarships. He attained Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Melbourne and participated in masterclasses from internationally acclaimed pianists including Stephen Hough, Lisa Moore, Paul Lewis and the late Paul Badura-Skoda.
Currently, Christopher continues to perform and teach in Melbourne, while balancing his role as Artistic Director of Skerzo. If you don't see him in the practice room, you can see him at the gym.
ABOUT ROLLIN ZHAO
Rollin Zhao enjoys an extensive career as a performer and educator. A passionate ensemble musician, Rollin regularly plays with the Queensland, Sydney, and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra.
As one of the top emerging string players in Australia, Rollin was selected as an ACO Emerging Artist in 2017 and a Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellow in 2018, allowing him to train alongside Australia’s premier music ensembles. Rollin is a graduate of both the University of Queensland (First Class Honours) and Australian National Academy of Music. He is a recipient of numerous accolades, including the Richard Pollett Memorial Award, Howard and Gladys Sleath Scholarship, 4MBS Sid Page Chamber Music Prize, and the Ursula Hoff Institute Prize.
Rollin currently teaches violin and viola at Scotch College and maintains a vibrant career as a freelance performer.
ABOUT TOM D’ATH
New Zealand born, Melbourne based clarinetist Tom D’Ath is a graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where he received a rigorous and diverse assortment of performance training through the University of Melbourne’s Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, New Music Studio, Big Band, and Chamber Music class throughout his undergraduate and graduate degrees in music.
Tom has performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Australian National Academy of Music Orchestra, and regularly performs in a variety of chamber music engagements around Melbourne.
ABOUT NILS HOBIGER
Queensland cellist Nils Hobiger was awarded his Performer’s Certificate from Trinity College London in 2006, his AMEB Associate Diploma of Music in 2007, a Bachelor of Music in 2012, and his Bachelor of Music Honors 2013 on an orchestral scholarship. In 2016, Nils completed the Professional Performance Program at the Australian National Academy of Music and then moved to Sydney to begin the Sydney Symphony Orchestral Fellowship Program for 2017.
Now based back in Melbourne, Nils is currently freelancing while continuing his passion for folk music and improvisation. Nils holds a casual position and performs regularly with Melbourne Symphony and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras.
