To discover one's queer voice, to accept a role in life outside the mainstream, is a constant exercise in self-honesty. There is strength in community, but the journey is ultimately a solitary one. In this programme for violin, cello and piano, every possible combination of one, two, or three instruments playing together is represented, as well as a broad cross-section of local and international queer composition stretching across 300 years. Through such diversity and history we revel in each others' shared experiences, and learn to stand alone if we need to.

Tempo Queer is a new initiative that is important in our culture, as it celebrates stories from our LGBTIQ+ community. The telling of stories from this vibrant and diverse group of people is of great importance for our culture, for our lives, and for the principles of equality - especially as for so many years, these stories were legally oppressed and prohibited. For this third concert in the Tempo Queer series, Coady Green and Kyla Matsuura-Miller present a kaleidoscopic program of works from LGBTIQ+ composers, including three exciting new world premieres and the Australian premiere of Jennifer Higdon's virtuosic String Poetic.
